Filey Folk Club re-started in October 2001, after a short break of about 25 years, and is still going strong. Meeting the first Wednesday in the month at The Station Pub (Top House to the locals) it usually draws 20 to 30 people during the winter and up to 50 during the summer season.
Although guests have included John Conolly, Richard Grainger, Hughie Jones and Chris Stern, the attraction of the Club seems to be the open singers and musicians nights, and so this is the usual format. The posters for the club claim that “what we play depends on who turns up” and this is true because Filey Folk Club is becoming well known for its eclectic (Robert has looked this up) range of “folk music”. There is usually a PA system, which is used sensitively.
Free entry, free food, some no smoking tables at the front, start time 8:30, but seats start to fill at 8:00. See you there??
